the mama project: things i love

Quietly nearing the end of week 36 and we’re almost at the home stretch.

I must admit, this pregnancy has been quite uneventful (thank goodness) and I am surprisingly not totally hating being pregnant.  One of the most difficult things to do when I first got pregnant was giving up on all the goodness that I loved…red wine, sushi, non-pasteurized cheese, red wine, and most of all red wine!  But then, I realized (with the help of some good reading materials and mama-friendly finds) that were other things to appreciate about being pregnant.  Here are a few things that I found and loved, that helped me through the pregnancy ups and downs!

Spa Nordstrom.  Yes, Nordstrom has a spa!  Not every Nordstrom does, but conveniently, South Coast Plaza’s Nordstrom has a full service spa on the fourth floor.  A few months back (around 7 months pregnant), I decided to try their prenatal massage.  The massage was absolutely amazing and much, much needed.  After photographing a wedding the night before, my body was thanking me for one of the best massages I’ve had a in while.  So, if you’re feeling discomfort during the last months of your pregnancy, go and get yourself a prenatal massage, you definitely won’t regret it!

Lollipop Nail Studio.  A mama-friendly nail salon located inside the OC Mart Mix, focusing on organic (and even vegan) oils and polishes.  When I called to make an appointment, they were almost booked solid on a Sunday, but they had offered to come in early in the morning, if we were willing to come in early.  It worked out in our favor and we were the first clients in there on a Sunday morning!  The studio was adorable, cute and bright colored – which puts you in a good, happy place before you even sit down in a chair!  The staff offered lollipops, mimosas, juice and water as we came in and then it was onto a heavenly pedicure.  I definitely recommend checking this place out, if you’re in the area – they even throw bridal and baby showers!  But make sure to arrive with a reservation, seating is limited and they book up pretty quickly!

Mama Mio Tummy Rub.  I hate stretch marks.  I’ve had stretch marks ever since 5th grade or so, when I had a sudden growth spurt and instead of ending up being the 6-foot swim suit model beauty I thought I’d become, I ended up being 5’5″ with stretch marks!  One of the first things I thought about when I got pregnant, was the impending doom of stretch marks all over my expanding belly.  Upon one of my intense Google searches, I stumbled upon Mama Mio Tummy Rub.  I absolutely swear by this jar of Tummy Rub.  Almost 37 weeks in and using since the beginning of my pregnancy, I am currently stretch mark free and hoping to stay that way (fingers crossed)!  For someone that has very sensitive skin, this all natural product has been working like a charm.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting.  I’m not a big reference book reader.  I tend to do most of my research online or as my husband likes to refer to it as Dr. Google.  The only problem with internet research on things like pregnancy, is that you run into every single scenario and soon can’t figure out what to trust (or not trust).  While at one of my earlier doctor’s visits, she offered me the book What to Expect When You’re Expecting – it was free and I wasn’t going to say no to a gift!!  I will admit that I have not read the book cover to cover, but it has been a bedside staple for me.  I refer to it when I have questions about what is happening to my body or I read what to expect during certain weeks of pregnancy.  I know there are a ton of reference books out there – some that may be easier to read, be more up to date or even humorous, but this one worked well enough for me, as a reference.  Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t completely ended my relationship with Dr. Google!

See you in week 37!
