Welcome to week 34.
Baby showers are an interesting thing…in lots of other countries, baby showers are celebrated at different times and for different reasons. According to Wikipedia…“The term shower is often assumed to mean that the expectant mother is “showered” with gifts. The related custom bridal shower may have derived its name from the custom in Victorian times for the presents to be put inside a parasol, which when opened would “shower” the mom-to-be with gifts.”
Growing up with a very traditional Chinese mother, it was difficult explaining to her the reasoning and timing for a western baby shower. Well, after much research, it all made sense! I discovered that…“In Chinese tradition, a baby shower is held one month after the baby is born. Due to the lack of advanced medical technology in ancient times, the high infant mortality rate prompted families and friends to celebrate if a baby survived more than one month after birth.” (source: Wikipedia)
Well, last weekend, Mama Ng experienced her first official western baby shower. Conceptualized, designed, photographed, baked, and hosted by some of the most fabulous friends someone could ever have, we were surrounded by our close friends and family for a casual, California style back yard BBQ. It’s amazing how much love was in one place for a baby that no one has had a chance to meet yet. It almost made a very pregnant, hormonal woman cry!
To all of our family and friends, we want to thank you so much for joining us and supporting us in our new adventure. We hope to not disappoint by bringing another dancing, singing, loud laughing Lempert into the world. We love you!!
And to the amazing friends who put this all together...Kelley, John, Tammy, Joshua, Katie, Brian, and Heidi – words cannot express how much we love and appreciate all that you’ve done for us. You all are seriously the gifts that keep on giving and we are so blessed to have you all in our lives. Finn is already such a lucky, little boy. XOXO
We’ll see you at Week 35! Happy Weekend.
