I remember sitting in Economics during my first year of college, listening to a professor lecture about statistics, GNP v. GDP…and I remember thinking, ‘…this is not what I want to do with my life, this is not making me happy.’⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All these years later, I look back and I don’t ever regret changing the course of my path because I wouldn’t be where I am today – happy, healthy, and passionate about my career. Of course, my Tiger Mom mother was quite upset when I called her to let her know that I was changing my major – “Mom I want to be an artist and that is what will make me happy.” I think she hung up on me — I mean, I get it! Back then, the term starving artist really meant STARVING ARTIST. No worries though, Mom eventually came around (secretly, I think she’d love it if I told her today that I was going back to school to become a lawyer). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love this quote because it means so much to me. We post quotes on social media quite often, but how often do we seriously connect with it? I am a testament to this quote – I didn’t ignore my intuitive nudge and despite how upset my mother was when I told her what I was going to do, I did it anyway because it was for me. I laid out my path and am chasing my dreams and for that, I am grateful beyond words.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
